Reading and allowing the Bible to reshape my life has been nothing short of a miracle. Only God can change the heart.

So very true! " And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

and then "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

As a counsellor and family therapist, I know that what we think about has an impact on our feelings. Allowing God to transform our minds, and our desire to feed ourselves on Truth and beauty will change us from the inside out. It's not a quick fix, but the more we submit to the power of God, the more healing we experience.

I disagree. God doesn't do anything personal for anyone. It's you and your faith that reshapes your life. Haven't you noticed yet that you and God are the same thing?

Expand full comment

Wow! If God and I are the same I am amazing! I have spun into existence and sustain this incredibly diverse and Complicated cosmos. My design of DNA even amazes me. The only question is, I wonder why I am bothered by the Burden of the tax system?

Expand full comment

You are talking about manifestations - the cosmos etc. God=You is beyond that. Undivided still awareness. Everything else is an illusion in the mind. You are bothered by the tax system because you falsly think that you are a body-mind with a name and identify with it. If you are really interested in that, google "I am that" by Nisargadatta Maharaj. It's the highest teaching but not for the faint-hearted because it destroys all your illusions.

I agree lingual but equally I can see that examining the Bible is not for everyone I’m sure you’ll agree You have to have a spiritual need …we’ve all got one of course, but it can get ‘seared’ or ignored and misdirected , usually at an early age as I remember mine did when I was very young But it’s worth trying when we are suffering in any way because Gods word exerts power when one begins to study it In my faith (jw) there’s hardly anyone needs psychiatric help any more (we have thousands all over the world who were ex drug addicts , ex alcoholics, (one being a son of mine!) ..even ex-murderers etc who’ve now found forgiveness & peace from all their guilt and anguish which had caused a lot of them to turn to various medications etc to ‘blot things out ‘ so to speak On our website (jw.org) There are many wonderful accounts of long-lasting complete turn-arounds of people’s lives once they allowed the power of God’s word to reshape their thinking processes and life course as you testified in your post Along with good friends now who encourage and love them , relapses are very rare It’s Never easy of course and many do accept psychiatric help along with their studies and growing faith when really needed , this, too is encouraged as even Jesus admitted physicians are needed ….(Why Luke himself was a physician wasn’t he?) but many I’ve talked with in the last 50yrs or so tell me they have really tried to avoid medications if at all possible and I can see why they think like this as Dr Breggins’ excellent article points out The friends I know in the brotherhood will gladly testify that eventually with Gods help and guidance from His Word they forge a relationship with Him as their heavenly Father and regain hope for a better future

The Bible informed and sustained the rise of western culture. It was the foundation that helped people whether they embraced it or not. Spirituality, when it seeks truth, points one to God who has revealed himself in the Bible. He provides hope and sustained meaning in all phases of life.

While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Takes renewing of the mind to begin to understand, and that is the gift of God!

This is all well until you meet God and discover who you really are. Useful stepping stones but not the end of the path. Eventually all faith and hope has to be abandoned too, because faith and hope is also a mental illusion.

To be or not to be, that is the illusion

Hu? A spiritual need is essential to wanting the help of the Bible? How about the Ten Commandments? Wouldn’t the world be better off if people actually understood and lived the precepts of these “spiritual” beliefs? We cannot depend only on the laws of men to live a life of honor. Laws offer nothing that build ideals and only offer a concept of doing what you want just don’t get caught.

While I appreciate the "do it without drugs" attitude, at the same time I'm not seeing the dialog where it is discussed exactly what it is that people need, in the absence of drugs, to get back in balance, for lack of a better name for it. And until we start seeing that, we will continue to have only a priesthood and a class system where the unfortunate are forever kept down. Please, people, can we break through some of these barriers soon? I don't want to hear "The Bible". I want to hear about a classless system of speakers and listeners that promotes widespread personal growth in a safe and well modulated way. We can do this, but only if the priest class is willing to let go of the controlling strings. Am I the only one who feels this way?

There has been a dwindling spiral of people's ability to help other people since the "drugs will do it" philosophy took hold little by little. Amazon carries Dr. Breggin's book: The Heart of Being Helpful: Empathy and the Creation of a Healing Presence 1st Edition. Released: Apr 27, 2006

I believe this book will answer your question.

I say if you do it without drugs, you must employ nutrition and supplements. When I first had this question in the early 80s (right when I graduated college), I started with a great book that I learned a lot from: Harvey and Marilyn Diamond Fit for Life. Here are a bunch more books that have helped me immensely over the past 45 years: Fit for Life by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond. Not for the diet exactly, but for the nutrition information in between. The book by Owen Fonorow I mentioned in an earlier comment:

Practicing Medicine Without A License? The Story of the Linus Pauling Therapy for Heart Disease (Pauling Therapy Handbook) by Owen Fonorow and Sally Jewell

Eat Fat, Lose Fat by Mary Enig and Sally Fallon; Know Your Fat Mary Enig and Mary Louise Kelly

Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon Morell; The Contagion Myth by Sally Fallon Morell and Dr. Tom Cowan.

All books by Andrew Saul, Linus Pauling, Abram Hoffer, Tom Levy (If you can't find the individual books, go to doctoryourself.com to at least find an article about each one. There are also a few other old time vitamin C guys that would be great to read about (all mentioned on doctoryourself.com). Brand new 2nd edition Niacin by Abram Hoffer, Andrew Saul and Harold Foster.

Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston A Price. Also, joining WestonAPrice.org is another great way to learn about healthy eating and only $40/year.

Root Canal Cover-up (not only bad for your teeth and mouth but also can prevent breast cancer by NOT doing them)!

Orthomolecular News (a web site): omns@orthomolecular.org

Two great (and different) books on raw milk and its healthfulness by Dr. Ron Schmid and Dr. William Campbell Douglass II. Books by Shane Ellison and he will talk about things on his web site: thepeopleschemist.com. The Carnivore Code and Carnivore Code Cookbook both by Dr. Paul Saladino.

The World Without Cancer Story of B17 and Laetrile G. Edward Griffin

It is always helpful to ask "What happened to you?" when dealing with addiction of any kind. the root of much addiction is trauma.

Covid changed how I view medicine. I do know there are good people trying to make a difference and improve lives. The problem is, it's not obvious "who" they are. Healthcare professionals are dodgy, silent and not open to discussion regarding Covid and medical corruption.

I am learning to read between the lines regarding people's language and how they mention corruption, importance of informed choice and blind distrust.

Fear still exists...

Thank-you for your work in making this world a better place!

May the power of social media like these YouTube videos help get this important information out there, farther and wider than ever before! So glad Dr. Josef, Dr. Roger McFillin, and so many others of the younger generation are bravely taking a stand and speaking out on media platforms. Dr. Breggin, you paved the way for them. Thank you for a lifetime of steadfast commitment, dedication, research, teaching, and practice of pushing back against Big Pharma and all the dangerous psychotropics and psych treatments, and modeling for us what sane and effective therapeutic healing is all about.

With all due respect, psychiatry cannot be reformed or salvaged. It was and is a corrupt institution from its inception. Breggin, Whitaker, Burstow, and others helped me to understand this fact. But psychiatry is the very thing that causes the problems that it purports to remedy. I am grateful for Dr. Breggin's work - Toxic Psychiatry, Medication Madness, and so forth - but it will take much more courage to speak the truth in the manner of Dr. Thomas Szasz and his mentor, Karl Kraus. Kraus knew that Freud was a fraud from the beginning, and Szasz understood better than anyone that psychiatry is a pseudo-scientific system of slavery that masquerades as a medical profession. Those who want to know the more complete truth about psychiatry, check out my series on The Truth about Psychiatry: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFaJ_qOIxtxn0DwMNe3hPQ0PHo6CuHABL

Yes, and check out the online magazine "Mad in America" for even more stories of corruption from the industry. It is truly mindboggling (pardon the pun)

Mad in America has a similar problem because too many people think that psychiatry can be reformed or fixed. Whitaker has done great work, but very few have caught on to the truth that Thomas Szasz articulated so clearly regarding the myth of mental illness. By all means, criticize psychiatry. But those who truly understand psychiatry also understand why psychiatry must not merely be criticized, but eradicated from the face of the earth.

I do agree John, unfortunately for many, they need to be "weaned off" the adulation of medical professionals and the whole idea that they can be 'fixed' by pills

I am a trained psychoptherapist and Hakomi therapist and therefore pretty much anti-pharmacutical drugs. I can imagine that for someone at high risk of suicide a short-term anti-depressant parallel to therapy could be advocated for. But that's not what I want to talk about.

I want to talk about the amazing healing power for mental condition that traditional plant medicines and some modern illegial drugs can provide. To me, drug addiction was always mostly self-medication for mental health AND spiritual development. They go together. Mental health is mostly a spiritual issue. I prefer the term coined by Stansilav Grof for mental disease: Spiritual Emergency.

I am talking from my own experiences. I did a lot of individual and group therapy as part of my training and it worked for me. But the intentional use under strict protocols of LSD, MDMA and, to a lesser extent Marijuana, Kratom, Coffee enemans, Valarian and other herb tinctures, beats pure therapy 100 to 1 in my experience. I do not like that these substances are now taken over and getting controlled by one of the most absive medical branches - psychiatry. However, there are younger trained psychiatrist that see the light and know what they are doing. Let's hope they get the influence needed.

But these are all miracle drugs if used the right way. There is one major reason why thery are illegal - so pharma can sell their crap stuff. I bet thery are behind the outlawing of them.

Young recrational drug abusers are another problem. They give the drugs a bad name and do harm.

It needs wisdom and a spiritual understanding of the world to use these drugs to optimal benefit. But when used right, it's 10% therapy max - the drugs do all the rest. This is not good for therapists who need to earn a livin, of course. That's the other reason why they are not used more frequently.

In society it's all economic and social problems and people are having a hard time dealing with the problems because they are overwhelming. We have to go with nutritional supplements, herbal remedies, and food that is nourishing versus big pharma drugs that cause additional problems. These situations are so pitiful.
