I've wondered about this theme of "take to the woods" because of course surveillance will be everywhere, eventually, if we allow this thing to evolve, so Peter and Ginger are correct: the first order of business is to not let this evolve.
remember when in 1984, the main character tried to 'escape' to the woods- read that again to get a reality check .Just look at all the words we use today- to describe places we go- 'community center', 'Ministry of Truth' etc- the book is full of them- our dystopian middle class environment- everything controlled- down to your smart streets, surveillance street lights- camera at every intersection, in every school, soon to be in every church that made it through the last lackdown. The protagonist, Winston Smith, an 'Outer Party 'functionary who privately rebels against the Party's totalitarian rule. Winston works in the 'Records Department 'of the' Ministry of Truth 'rewriting news articles to conform with the Party's current version of history. Instead of going to the Community Center, Winston wanders through 'prole'neighborhoods. He is fearful because he knows the Party disapproves of 'ownlife', the desire for solitude. Preoccupied with the fact that he may be stopped by a patrol, he is nearly struck by a rocket bomb. The guy who wrote this book was totally sick and twisted- just like pre-crime, he was writing, pre- history.

I daydream about escaping. Knowing it’s impossible with the technology. And I have so many health issues, I can’t handle functioning in modern society without the help of my husband (& my integrative medicine doctor) to function. I think the disater in Ohio was intentional, it will compromise many of the Amish and Mennonite communities who are doing just fine without most modern conveniences. These books are not trivial, probably only people under 30 can understand the concepts. Older than that, there is a steep learning curve. Tech moves too damn fast!
There is a proper leverage point that can provide sustainable resistance,, and by the grace of God, we may come to understand it. Current expressions of consciousness are shaped by a split model of reality. When we assume that the spiritual and the physical are fundamentally different, God is placed far away and this makes room for power act as a stand in (and creates an object oriented consciousness). Because a consequent cannot prove an antecedent any initial assumption is just that, an assumption. Results show the split model to be false and we may do much better if, collectively we realize that the spiritual and the physical are pretty much the same thing. The new way needs a proper foundation.
This is the apocalypse, the uncovering, we have buried our trauma in unconsciousness for a long time, where it percolates till it can be contained no more.

I wondered that if the cities fail, guess where those people are going to flee to?
I remember reading that during the great depression, urban areas were dangerous.
We have the super power of seeing reality as it is!
Some think they are Superman that can escape and defend their crystal palace.
The rest of us know that being Clark Kent is the smartest disguise ever.
I'm glad that we are a group that are growing among the chaos. Sooner or later, we will hit critical mass and the revolution will not be televised because it's already started.

‘Between the pipe dream and paralysis’ this really resonated with me. I think it aptly describes our predicament. We’re being bombarded and it’s difficult to know where to put our energy and resources. With so much fuckery coming at us from all sides it’s got me almost paralyzed at this point. I’m literally exhausted by the protests and prepper training now. Being isolated and stuck is no good for anyone or anything.
